ESPA is saddened to learn that six park rangers were killed in a brutal armed attack in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday 10 January.
Wildlife rangers risk their lives daily to protect threatened species, habitats, and the local communities that depend on them. Our thoughts are with all of the families and colleagues of the fallen rangers.
Since 2003 over 1,000 wildlife rangers have lost their lives in the line of duty.
